BARGAINING COUNCIL FOR THE BUILDING INDUSTRY
MBA Boland represents the Employers’ Party at the Council and annually negotiate basic employment conditions and wage increases on behalf of their members and the Building Industry.
The Council provides the employees of MBA Boland members with fringe benefits such as pension, medical aid fund, sick pay fund and holiday pay fund.
PROBLEM SOLVING
The MBA office is capable and willing to assist members on a variety of problems experienced by builders/subcontractors provided it falls within the ambit of the MBA Constitution and Objectives.
BUILDING CONTRACTS
Members of MBA Boland have access to the JBCC 2000 and BIFSA series building contracts at special rates.
TENDER INFORMATION
Tender Information is e-mailed to every member with e-mail facilities on Mondays. The tender results are being published monthly in the News bulletin.
MBA LOGO
Members have the right to use the MBA logo on their letterheads and other stationary. The MBA office supply MBA membership stickers to use on your vehicles.
MEETINGS / GATHERINGS
Over and above the Annual General Meeting, the Association arranges regular regional meetings to keep members informed on the latest developments in the industry. At such meetings members will receive feedback on a variety of important issues as well as assistance in their short– and long term planning.
The annual Dinner and Dance is the highlight on the social calendar where members can get to know one another better and enjoy a sociable evening together.
PUBLICATIONS
You, as one of the Association’s members, will receive the following Publications free of charge:
- MBA Boland publishes a weekly e-mail newsletter containing news concerning the industry.
- “Avoid the headache”,a publication aimed at prospective homeowners.
- The Labour Relations Act 1995, a manual for building contractors.
SAFETY SERVICE
MBA Boland assist employers to comply with the requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Act. This service includes visits to building sites, safety documentation, 1st aid and safety representatives training, training for management and expert advice by our safety advisor. With the objective to improve safety on building sites, MBA Boland arranges an annual safety competition in conjunction with Federated Employers’ Mutual (FEM).
LABOUR RELATIONS
Members are entitled to free advice and assistance with their labour relations matters. MBA Boland provides a venue (if required) for disciplinary and appeal hearings and act as chairman for the proceedings. Members are assisted with the appointment or dismissal/retrenchment of employees. The association also assists members in cases referred to the CCMA for arbitration.
Examples of forms used in relation to labour relations are available to members.
The association has developed a computer software programme to calculate wages of employees. (This is available to employers with 10 or less employees)
